Daily Routine

At The Hills, we believe that structure is key to recovery. Our carefully designed daily routine is all about creating healthy habits, building strength—both physically and mentally—and ensuring that you have the support you need at every step of your journey. Each day is tailored to help you move forward, find balance, and rebuild your life. Here’s what a typical day looks like at The Hills:

At The Hills, every part of your day is designed to help you not only break free from addiction but also to confront and change the behaviors that fueled your substance use. Our structured routine supports your physical, mental, and emotional recovery, providing you with the tools you need to rebuild your life and maintain lasting sobriety.

Person going on a morning walk.
  • Morning : Start your day with a refreshing off-site walk or jog, followed by mindfulness, breath work, stretching, or meditation. These practices are not just about physical health—they’re essential for resetting your mind and body, helping you develop healthier habits to replace the routines that might have contributed to addiction or mental health struggles.
Group Therapy at the Hills
  • Mid-Morning : Before lunch, you’ll participate in two key group sessions. First is the Process Group, where you can openly share and reflect on your experiences in a supportive environment with others who understand your journey. After that, you’ll join either a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) or DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) session, focused on addressing the root causes of mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, or trauma. These sessions provide practical coping strategies to help shift negative thought patterns and build healthier habits.
Art therapy, spiritual chat with monk, TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises)
  • Midday : After the morning sessions and lunch, you’ll alternate between Art Therapy and spiritual chats with a monk on Mondays, offering creative and spiritual outlets to explore deeper emotions. On other days, you’ll engage in TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) or a Focus Group, both designed to help release stress and trauma, which are often at the core of mental health challenges like PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
  • Afternoon : Your afternoons are all about personalized support. This includes 1-on-1 sessions like personal training, counseling, and massages, all tailored to meet your individual needs. These sessions help rebuild your confidence and physical health, both of which can take a hit from addiction or ongoing mental health challenges. By working on your personal goals, you’re actively replacing unhealthy behaviors with more positive ones.
Person resting in the evening.
  • Evening: After dinner, the day winds down with a reflection session. This quiet time allows you to process everything you’ve experienced throughout the day. Reflection is an essential part of solidifying the progress you’ve made and internalizing the positive changes you’re working on, ensuring you’re on the right path to recovery and healing.

Weekly Highlights

Throughout the week, you’ll engage in various specialized group sessions designed to support your mental health journey. These include:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) or DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy): Depending on the day, these sessions focus on addressing the thoughts and behaviors that contribute to mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or trauma. You’ll learn techniques to help manage your emotions, challenge negative thinking, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

  • Holistic Treatments: Some days include sessions like Aqua Aerobics or TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises). These holistic therapies aim to release stress and tension stored in the body, fostering a sense of calm and emotional balance. These approaches complement traditional therapies by focusing on both mental and physical well-being.

  • Art Therapy or Spiritual Discussions: On certain days, you’ll have the option to explore emotional healing through creative outlets like Art Therapy or engage in deeper spiritual conversations with a monk. These sessions are designed to help you process emotions and gain new insights into your mental health journey in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.

Each week is designed to address different aspects of mental health, providing a balanced mix of therapeutic activities that support emotional resilience, trauma healing, and overall well-being.

Weekend Activities

We know that transitioning back to everyday life is a critical part of mental health recovery. Our weekend activities are designed to help you relax and apply the skills you’ve been developing throughout the week:

  • Saturdays: Self-care is an important part of maintaining mental wellness. On Saturdays, you can enjoy services like haircuts or manicures/pedicures. Taking care of your appearance boosts self-esteem, promoting a sense of confidence and well-being.

  • Sundays: Our excursions offer a gentle form of exposure therapy, helping you become more comfortable in real-world settings. These trips can range from nature walks to visits to local spots, giving you the chance to practice coping strategies in everyday environments while enjoying a relaxing day out.

These weekend activities provide a balanced approach to self-care and real-life application, ensuring that you’re not only taking time for yourself but also preparing for the challenges of navigating the outside world.

At The Hills, every part of your day is designed not just to support your recovery here, but to equip you with the tools and routines you need to build a healthier, happier life once you return home.
